红花会

街上好多人胸前都别着美丽的红色小花，我猜是类似于香港卖旗日的贴纸那种，公益捐款的标志。想到红花会，有点好笑，又想到天地会和周星驰电影里的天地会切口。

一查，原来红色小花是罂粟花，为了纪念帮助英联邦现役和退役死伤士兵而举行的罂粟诉求(Poppy Appeal)。用罂粟是因为一战时的诗歌：

In Flanders Fields by John McCrae


In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row, 
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly


Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, 
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe: 
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high. 
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

中校McCrae有感于前一天好朋友的去世，在1915年5月3日写下这首诗。从1918年开始，每年11月11日的11点，都要有2分钟默哀（去年我怎么没感觉到？）。这个日子之前两三个星期，商店和路上都有提供罂粟别针，捐一些钱就可以拿一个，款项用来参加在比利时某地统一的纪念活动，或者给活着的老兵改善生活（？）。
 

其实回想一下，似乎前一阶段的确在地铁里经常看到一个视频广告，一朵朵小红花组成一个人形，在后面推着坐轮椅的大叔。我还以为是帮助残疾人之类的，没想到就是罂粟行动，也没想到这个大叔是老兵。
